Located approximately 10 km southeast of Fátima, the fossil bed of Pedreira do Galinha contains the oldest and longest Sauropod tracks in the world. The Sauropods were quadruped, herbivorous dinosaurs with small heads and long necks and tails. The area also contains traces of some of the largest land animals that have ever lived, dating from the middle Jurassic period, some 175 million years ago. The museum exhibits the largest nest of dinosaur eggs in the world. Set in the beautiful Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Nature Park, the site was discovered in July 1994 by João Carvalho and is well worth a visit.
