Pedro do Ouro, 29 kms northwest of Alcobaça, is surrounded by a large pine forest with a wide expanse of golden beach contrasting with the black rock of the surrounding cliffs. At the north end there is an abandoned windmill and a good view of São Pedro de Moel. The south side has safer waters and connects with the neighbouring Polvoeira Beach at low tide. A favourite fishing area, it is also popular with surfers and body boarders. Lifeguards are present in season and there are facilities for the disabled, restaurants and bars. Summer seawater temperature is 16-18 ºC.
