The Igreja Matriz de São Roque is an 18th-century church, whose building work began in 1776. The church is of impressive dimensions, with two towers on the façade. Inside, visitors can admire the carved and gilded woodwork of the altars, a set of religious images, most notably the 16th-century image of the church’s patron saint (St. Rock) and another 18th-century image of St. Anne, a jacaranda lectern with ivory inlays and a silver chandelier donated by King Dom João V (1689-1750).
