The Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Estrela was sanctified in 1517 and dedicated to the Purification of the Holy Virgin. In the interior consisting of three naves, the Chapel of the Three Kings and the Chapel of Santíssimo are outstanding, one with beautiful paintings and the other with valuable carvings. The sacristy has a 16th century Flemish triptych of painting on wood. In the 19th century, Sister Clarissa Margarida produced a piece of art known as the “Arcano”. It is a display of hundreds of tiny figures, moulded from bread crumbs, gum Arabic and albumen, set at various levels and representing scenes from the Old and New Testament.
