The original parish church was built in the 16th century but, as with so many historic buildings in Portugal, it was severely damaged in the great earthquake of 1755. The current building dates from the 19th century, but the main chapel, clad in azuelo tiles and sporting a ribbed vault, is a relic from the earlier building. The retable of the main chapel is carved and gilded, endowed with some stunning 18th century statues. Among the many religious artefacts housed in the church is a monstrance in gilded copper.
