The Igreja Matriz of Ponte de Lima was ordered in 1425 by King Joćo I (1385-1433) and is believed to have been completed in 1446. Subject to many alterations over the ages, it is an interesting combination of Romanesque, Gothic and Neo-classical styles. This contrast is apparent from the 18th century rose window over the Gothic portal. The attractive interior has a richly carved 17th century side altar dedicated to Nossa Senhora das Dores and another to Nossa Senhora de Fįtima from the 18th century.
