The parish church of Alvito is the Nossa Senhora da Assunção, constructed in the early sixteenth century. Several exterior decorative features clearly identify it as an example of Mudejar architecture, a style of Iberian architecture and decoration strongly influenced by Moorish taste and workmanship. The church has a modest Renaissance entrance doorway. Inside, the walls are covered in azulejo panels, whose beautiful patterns are a harmonious blend of blue and yellow portraying religious scenes. In the upper choir is a large seventeenth-century altarpiece of carved and gilded wood.
