Originally built in the 13th century in thanksgiving for the safe return of second lord of Alte from the eighth crusade to the Holy Land, the church was modified in the 16th and 18th centuries. The main chapel has a Manueline triumphal arch and a vaulted painted ceiling. The walls and vaults are decorated with 18th century tiles. The chapel of São Sebastião contains some beautiful 16th century polychrome tiles from Seville. Notable statues include a 17th century Santa Teresa, an Our Lady of the Rosary and a St Margaret from the 18th century. The fonts are 16th century.
