The Parish Church of Sao Brás dos Matos dates back to the early Middle Ages, although its exact age is unknown. It was established after a miracle occurred and the villages wanted to build a shine in thanksgiving. The first shine devoted to the miraculous happenings was outside the small village, but in 1758 it was decided to use this older chapel to house the statue which gave rise to the miracle. A special niche was constructed where people pray for divine intervention.
