The town of Paredes, about 6 km west of Penafiel, has a number of attractions. These include a Roman bridge, the artistic, archaeological and ethnographical museum of Paredes de Coura and to the northeast of the town, the Bitaráes church with its rich carved and gilded woodwork. The São Pedro de Cete church to the south west is Romanesque from the 11th century and one of the oldest places of worship in Portugal; it was modified in Manueline style in the 16th century. The 19th-century Palacete da Granja a mansion in Neo-classical style is in the parish of Castelões de Cepeda.
