Paimogo Fort is situated on cliffs overlooking the beach of the same name and is located about 7 km northwest of Lourinhã. It is classified as a Site of Public Interest and was built in 1674 on the orders of Dom António Luís de Menezes (1603-1675), first Marquis of Miralva. He was the most important Portuguese general during the Restoration War (1640- 1668) and was also Count of Cantanhede. The small baroque fort formed part of the fortified line which extended from Peniche to the mouth of the Tagus River. Rectangular in design, it has cylindrical sentry boxes with conical roofs.
