The Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Vitória has had an eventful past. In 1758 it was closed due to structural problems and services transferred to the Chapel of St. Joseph, at Rua das Taipas until completion of the new church in 1768. This church was damaged in the siege of Porto (1832-1833) and services were again transferred, this time to the neighbouring church of the São Bento da Vitória Monastery. Final restoration took place after a fire in 1874.The church is noted for its wood carving and a beautiful statue of Nossa Senhora da Vitória by sculptor Soares dos Reis.
