Found in the northeast part Penafiel, the Nossa Senhora da Piedade Sanctuary is worth visiting. Set in a beautiful park, it is often referred to as the Sameiro Sanctuary. It was built in 1908, in a curious mixture of Neo-Gothic and Byzantine styles. The surrounding Zeferino de Oliveira Park, better known as Sameiro Garden, was laid out in the late 19th early 20th centuries. The garden includes a fountain, a lake, gazebos and rock benches; there is even a lakeside bar, a modern construction harmoniously integrated into its surroundings.
