Located on the outskirts of Óbidos, the Ermida de Nossa Senhora de Monserrate was originally a Gothic chapel, which was rebuilt at the end of the 16th century. Since 1730 it has been the home of the Third Order of St. Francis and the Franciscan emblem can be seen. The portal is baroque, but the real feature of this single nave church is the 17th century multi-coloured tiling. A dome covers the chancel and the painted retable depicts St. John in Patmos and other saints related to the Franciscan Order, it is the work of Belchoir de Matos from about 1600.
