Situated on a small hill, this church affords magnificent views of the surrounding countryside and ocean. The Nossa Senhora da Piedade is a Carmelite sanctuary originally built in the 16th century. The current building dates from the18th century. The interior includes a fifteenth century statue of the Virgin Mary, 17th century azulejo tiles, frescos and paintings. The main altar has a carved 18th century retable, with a statue of the Virgin dating from the 17th century. On one of the walls is a cross, made of tiles painted with figures, which dates back to the 18th century.
