Nossa Senhora do Carmo Church carries a wonderful legend. Many years ago a violent storm arose while the fishermen were still at sea. With the lives of their men folk in danger, the women of Fuseta made an enormous fire in the churchyard, the highest point of the village, to show the men the way to return. From their boats the men followed the distant glow, and also the image of Our Lady that accompanied them until they reached land safely. The church has some fine 18th century statues and the churchyard offers wonderful views of the town, the Ria and the sea.
