Our Lady of Carmel Chapel, also known as the de São João de Mucharro, is located on the outskirts of Óbidos. Legend says it was once a temple dedicated to Jupiter. Rebuilt in the 14th/15th centuries, it was dedicated to St. John the Baptist of Mucharro, but the dedication changed to Our Lady of Carmel in the 17th century. Damaged in the 1755 earthquake, restoration works were carried out in the mid 20th century by the National Monuments directorate. The 15th century statue of St. John, the old patron saint, is in the municipal museum. The double ribbed vaulting is a feature.
