Located on the top of a hill near Chacim, 13 km southeast of Macedo de Cavaleiros, is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Balsamão, where a hermitage was established in 1733. Later in the first half of the18th century, a convent was founded by a Polish Friar Casimiro Wiszynski, which was abandoned following the banning of religious orders in 1834. The 18th century altar has gold engravings, decorations formed by spiral columns and an alabaster sculpture of the Virgin Mary. Pilgrimage day is the 25th March.
