Under the auspices of the Oriente Foundation and located in a 1940s building in the Alcântara Dock, the Oriente Museum deals with the relationship between Asia and Portugal. There are two permanent exhibitions. ‘The Portuguese Presence in Asia’ on the first floor exhibits documents and items such as 17th and 18th-century Chinese and Japanese screens, porcelain and bearing the coat of arms of the Companhia das Índias and similar art and cultural objects. The second floor houses the exhibition ‘Gods of Asia’ consisting of more than 13,000 items covering popular Asian religions with puppets, masks, lanterns, dragons, statues and much more.
