Located just below the medieval bridge, the Torre da Cadeia, also known as the Torre da Porta Nova, was originally part of the town’s fortifications and later served as a prison. The 14th century crenellated tower facing the river has been recently restored and now serves as an art gallery. Interesting features are the corbelling and many signed stones. On the ground floor you can see embroidered linen and cotton being made in a handicraft and souvenir shop.
