The Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, the parish church of Horta was built at the end of the 17th century in the Baroque style. It belonged at that time to the Convento da Ordem Terceira, the Convent of the Third Order. Inside, it is still possible to admire the church’s Baroque decoration, which includes carved and gilded woodwork, tile panels (azulejos) showing religious scenes and a group of 18th-century religious images. The church is closed is no longer used for services.
