Located between two beautiful beaches, the sheltered Nazare Marina is about 1.5 km south of the town and has moorings for 52 boats up to 25 metres long. The fishing harbour also shares the port facilities and Nazaré is one of the most famous fishing towns in Portugal. You can still see the colourful, narrow fishing boats with curved prows, some with a painted eye, a tradition said to date back to the Phoenicians who settled here. Before the harbour was built, these boats were all pulled on to the beach by oxen.
