Considered one of the finest in the region, Nazaré beach is in a traditional fishing village where women can still be seen wearing the seven-skirt regional costume, whilst drying fish on wooden frames. With the traditional multi-coloured canvas shelters, the beach has strong waves which provide excellent conditions for surfing and body boarding; volleyball is also played here. The beach has EEC blue flag status, with lifeguards on duty in season and facilities for the disabled. The average seawater temperature in summer is 16-18 ºC and parking is available. There are bars, cafes and restaurants and umbrellas can be hired.
