The fine red and white wines from the Alcobaça region are well known. The Museu Nacional do Vinho was established in 1968, under the patronage of the Portuguese Institute of Vineyards and Wine. Located about 1.2 km east of Alcobaça, in a former winery (adega), the museum’s cellar has a collection of thousands of bottles of wine from all over the country, many more than 50 years old. Apart from learning the wine making process, you can see objects and tools used in the wine industry and a collection of earthenware pitchers from the Alentejo, including one from 1620.
