The Museu do Vinho is housed in the former Carmelite convent and is a great place for anyone who would like to know more about the history of wine production on the island of Pico. The Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture was classified by UNESCO as World Heritage in 2004. The wine used to be sent directly to the table of the Czars of Russia. Vine growing on the island of Pico began towards the end of the 15th century when the first settlers arrived on the island.
