Located in an early 20th-century house, the Museu de Santa Maria displays traditional furniture and utensils from one of the island’s dwellings to show how the islanders lived in the past. The museum’s collection includes an interesting variety of pottery objects produced by the many potteries that once existed on Santa Maria Island. There is also a section dedicated to locally produced linens. The various sections of the museum give an excellent overview of the island through the ages. The museum also hosts exhibitions of works by local artists.
