Housed since 1981 on three floors of the former Hotel Costa, the Municipal Museum has collections of archaeology, ethnology and other local items, sacred art and pictures devoted to local themes. There is a large canvas of the Serra de Sintra, by the Luso-Californian painter Manuel da Silva, in the hall of the building. Amongst the many fine artists represented are Alberto de Souza, Paula Campos, Milly Possoz and there is a 16th century painting on wood by Diogo Teixeira ‘The Pentecost’. The museum also stages temporary exhibitions.
