The Vila Franca de Xira Municipal Museum consists of a number of centres. The Igreja de Santo Mártir is the sacred art centre and the Alverca Museum Centre has a large collection of ethnographical exhibits related to life in the area from the 17th to 20th centuries. The Barco Varino Liberdade, a restored traditional river-boat, runs trips in summer. The 17th century Palácio do Sobralinho and grounds can be visited, it also has a wokshop/studio used for the artistic education of children. The Quinta da Piedade in Póvoa de Santa Iria houses a permanent exhibition on the history of the local area.
