The Museu Municipal de Santiago do Cacém has wonderful displays of numismatics and archaeology, the latter showing the human occupation of the region since the Upper Palaeolithic era. In the ethnographic collection, visitors are able to see a typical Alentejo kitchen from a bygone era, to which has been added a recreation of a humble bedroom. In a different section of the museum another bedroom, this time in a bourgeois style and originating from one of the region’s noble families - the Counts of Avillez, shows the diversity of the remarkable legacy that is housed here. Guided tours are available.
