Opened in June 1970 the Municipal Museum of Óbidos has a wide range of exhibits, including the painting ‘Faustino das Neves’ dating from 1670, by the famous local artiste Josefa de Óbidos (1630-1684). She was one of the few female European painters, known to have been active in the Baroque era. The museum also houses an important collection of French and English weapons and military objects from the Peninsular War (1808-1814). Other items on display include sacred art sculptures and paintings, archaeological finds and Baroque furniture.
