The Joaquim Vermelho Museum displays a replica of a traditional Alentejo house, as well as typical regional handicrafts. There are sections on ceramics from the 18th and 19th centuries, clay pottery, earthenware, cork, animal horn and wood articles. A particular highlight is the painted Alentejo furniture from the 19th century. Other interesting sections include displays of Roman and mediaeval archaeology, tiles and religious art. In one of the museum’s courtyards there is a workshop, where two local potters can be seen making the traditional clay figures of Estremoz.
