On the riverbank amid a row of white buildings and close to the Town Hall (which houses the tourist information centre) is the Igreja do Espirito Santo. This former church (which has a beautiful Manueline window) is now home to the Municipal Museum. The museum has a wealth of archaeological material dating from the Stone Age and the Roman occupation of the region. It also contains relics of the Moorish period, stained glass and a collection of coins through the ages.
