Known also as the Workers or Farmers Market, or in Portuguese as Mercado dos Lavradores, a visit to this market building and the open space around is a lively and bustling experience. The market building itself was erected in the 1930s and is in a style somewhere between art deco and modernism. Watch out for the Sacavém tiled pictorial panels at, and just inside, the entrance. Farmers, fisherman, flower growers and craft workers bring their products to this market from all over Madeira and create a vibrant and colourful display.
