Mourão is a small Alentejo town overlooking countryside that is truly glorious. The town stands over the plain, which was why King Dinis ordered the town walls and castle built. Being so close to Spain and the River Guardiana, the region was in need of protection. King Denis is also remembered for his good work. The River Guardiana is the lifeblood of the region and is a place of real beauty. Other attractions include the Castle, the Parish Church and the Roman remains of Lousa Castle.
