Mount Penha is situated 7 km southeast of Guimarães and is a popular place for visitors, offering a wide range of facilities. The cable car takes about 10 minutes to reach the summit at a height of 400 metres. At the top, from where you can see the Atlantic, is the chapel of Our Lady of Penha, which was consecrated in 1652 and has fine azueljo panels by Policarpo de Oliveira Bernardes. The wooded hillsides provide walks, a number of grottos and picnic areas. There are also keep-fit circuits, a mini-golf course, a horse-riding centre, restaurants, bars, cafes and a campsite.
