In a prominent location, on a triangular island at the junction of the Avenida Marechal Gomes da Costa and the Avenida da Boavista, is the Monument to the Entrepreneur (Monumento ao Empresário). A modern work which was created in 1992 by José Rodrigues, who was also responsible for ‘The Cube’ in the Praça da Ribeira (see separate entry). The monument consists of a 3.5 metre diameter marble sphere, irregular prisms of 20 and 10 metre height and a 4 metre high pyramid. The use of water and lighting effects are key sculptural elements.
