Monsanto Park is about 2,500 acres in extent and only 15 minutes away from the city centre by bus. Known locally as Parque Florestal de Monsanto, it is ideal for a family outing. The facilities include a BMX bike track, skateboard park, roller skating rink, playground, swimming pool, restaurants and numerous picnic spots. There are walking trails, fountains, a botanical garden, a horse riding centre and the park also stages open air concerts, conservation and ecology themed exhibitions and has environmental education facilities. In the 1950s it had a well known racing circuit, no longer in use.
