Located 33 km east of Idanha-a-Velha, the Monfortinho springs are believed to date from Roman times but they were definitely in use from the 17th century. New facilities in the 1940s made the spa amongst the most prestigious in Portugal. The water is hyposaline and contains carbon anhydride, has a pH level of 5.7 and the temperature is 31ºC. It is recommended for the treatment of dermatological pathologies, hepato-vesicular disorders, intestinal diseases, rheumatic diseases and diseases of the respiratory system. There are facilities for the disabled and a full range of leisure activities.
