Monforte is a typical fortified Alentejo town. One of the main attractions is the Castelo de Monforte. Located in the Povoação de Aguas Frias, at 825 metres above sea level, Monforte castle is also known as the Castle of Santo António. A walled enclosure and imposing keep are all that remain of the original structure. Other tourist attractions include the Igreja Paroquial de Santo Aleixo, a church from the 17th century in the mannerist style, found in the Largo dos Bicos and a Roman bridge just outside of town.
