The Santa Casa Misericórdia Museum Centre is housed in the Church of the Brethren (Igreja da Irmandade) and its outbuildings. There are 55 paintings on the main wall of the church and, with the others on display, constitute a major collection of regional art. Amongst others there are paintings by Baltazar Gomes Figueira (1604-1674) who was born in nearby Óbidos and is the father of another great artiste Josefa de Óbidos (1630-1684). Do not overlook the splendid 14th century Flemish altarpiece.
