The early 17th century Misericórdia Church is the property of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Peniche and attached to the former hospital of this charitable organization. The internal decoration of the church is very attractive and features 17th century ceiling panels depicting the Life and Passion of Christ and azulejo panels from the same century. The church also has 5 paintings by the famous artiste Josefa de Óbidos (1630-1684) who is buried in nearby Óbidos where she had settled in 1653.
