The 17th century Misericórdia Church is located in the Pederneira district of Nazaré adjacent to the cemetery; it commands a fine view across the beach towards Sítio. The façade is late baroque and the interior has some fine 17th and 18th century paintings, notably ‘Miracle of the Roses’. The carved and gilded altar contains a beautiful statue of ‘Our Lord of the Stations of the Cross’ which is used in an annual procession. The altar also displays a statue of the Deceased Christ. Note the 17th century polychrome tile panel depicting ‘Our Lady of Mercy’ over the entrance.
