The Igreja da Misericórdia (Church of the Misery) is plain fronted and small in size, but the Manueline interior more than makes up for this. This peculiarly Portuguese style frequently manifested itself in churches and monasteries.The church has an outstanding carved wood main altar dating from the 18th century, embellished with a statue of the crucifixion and two other art works, also from the 18th century. The walls are covered in patterned tiles dating from the end of the 17th century.
