Built in 1562, but substantially altered in the 18th century, the Misericórdia Church is an important Renaissance legacy. The façade is in the Italian Renaissance style and the lateral entrance, with a scene from the "Visitation" above, is a fine example of the 15th century Coimbra school of sculpture. The Baroque interior has a retable completed by Marcelino de Araújo in the 1730s and includes a panel by painter José Lopes. Interestingly, there are some depictions of King João V and his family. The main altar has an image of Our Lady of Mercy by José António Gonçalves, dated 1774.
