Mira beach is located about 7 km northwest of Mira and, with strong waves, is popular with surfers and body boarders. Beyond the dunes which flank the beach, the Barrinha Lagoon, with its calm waters, provides good conditions for sailing, canoeing and windsurfing. The old Palheiros (fishermens huts) can be seen on the beach, and one has been converted into an Ethnographic Museum. This is an EEC Blue flag beach, with lifeguards on duty in season and facilities for the disabled. The average seawater temperature in summer is 16 ŗC, parking is available and there are bars, cafes and restaurants.
