The 33 metre high, three storey castle keep, houses the military museum which was founded in 1932 by Colonel António José Teixeira, the commander of the 10th Infantry Regiment, which was barracked in the Citadel from the mid 19th century. Many of the exhibits are from the Colonel’s private collection and include memorabilia from the Spanish and Napoleonic wars (during which Bragança was occupied) and the Africa campaigns of 1895, as well as suits of armour, medieval torture instruments, traditional costumes and a collection of African art. Nearby is a six metre tall medieval pillory which skewers a granite boar.
