Milicias is comprised of two calm and family friendly beaches known as Areal Grande and Areal Pequeno. Both beaches have good supporting facilities including bars and showers and are recommended for children and those who are not strong swimmers. Ponta Delgada has other beaches not endowed with facilities, but still very pleasant, such as the São Roque beach which is quieter and not very well frequented. Close to the beaches and well worth visiting is the Fort Sao Caetano.
