The prehistoric burial site of the Mezio Megalithic Centre is located approximately 14 km northeast of Arcos de Valdevez and 7 km northwest of Soajo. There are around twelve graves on the plateau, of which the most famous is the Mezio Dolmen (designated ‘Mamoa 3’). This site still retains traces of the mamoa, the earth and small stone covering with which the grave was sealed. Archaeological excavations have established that the monuments are about 5,000 years old and that they have been subject to some vandalism. The site has an explanatory plaque, to enable visitors to understand the primitive architecture.
