This medieval tower, near the Cathedral and close to the ruins of the old Town Hall, was discovered during the 1940s as a result of excavations for the Terreiro da Sé. The two storey quadrangular tower was completely restored under architect Rogério de Azevedo. The Gothic door on the south side and the stone balcony on the north wall were added at this time. Also known as the Torre da Cidade the City’s History Cabinet was housed here until 1960. The Gothic door on the south side and the stone balcony on the north wall were added at this time.
