The promenade runs the full length of Matosinhos beach and is a popular place for cyclists, roller bladers and scooters. The extensive beach has strong waves, typical of this coast and ideal for surfing, body boarding and kite surfing, it hosts various competitive events. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area specialising in fish and shellfish dishes. Lifeguards are on duty in season, parking is available and there are facilities for the disabled. The average summer seawater temperature is 16 ºC, and umbrellas can be hired.
